Mount Batur itself is actually just a small volcano 1717m above sea level, but its setting is in the heart of a huge crater 14km in diameter. Adjacent to the volcano is the large Batur lake, all surrounded by the walls of the crater rim which offers an impressive view. For a complete panoramic view, climb up to top of the volcano is one the most interesting sight and best to do in a very early morning. (wear good hiking shoes).
